In January 2023, Providence hosted a panel discussion on how to balance sports and other extracurricular activities so parents can prioritize family time and help children develop a life-long appreciation of physical activity and teamwork. Listen as alumni parents Wes and Meredith Boyd, Betsy and Rob Borrego, and Anne and Todd Beller to share their insights on managing a child’s schedule when it comes to sports, after school activities, and academics.

On Saturday, October 15,  Justin Earley, author of Habits of the Household and The Common Rule, Justin discussed how meal times, playtime, and bedtime can be opportunities for spiritual formation. He discussed how our daily habits and ordinary moments can be opportunities to invest in the hearts of our children.

On Tuesday, November 29, 2023, Dr. Cristina Sevadjian from Sparrow House discussed how parents can guide their children through social and emotional development and help their children as they encounter stress, lack of motivation, and social challenges with friends and classmates.

As a mother of three, author, and university professor, Jessica Hooten Wilson is passionate about classical Christian education and the power of storytelling to equip our children with truth. She will discuss how reading quality books can shape a child’s heart and set them free from the false stories the world has to offer. A dynamic speaker and author of three books, Jessica serves as Professor of Humanities and Classical Education at University of Dallas and is a former teacher at Covenant Classical School in Fort Worth. The Mentoring Moms program was created to come alongside and help equip Providence families who have children in Early Learners through Class One. Recently, Dr. Nell Bush joined us via a recorded video to discuss how to "Parent Without Power Struggles." Although  this lecture is geared towards families with young children, we believe that many of the points she makes are applicable to families with children of all ages. 

Dr. Nell Bush is a Child Development Specialist who speaks to parenting groups and conducts teacher-training workshops throughout North Texas. She has her doctorate in Child Development from the University of Texas at Austin, where she taught undergraduate family and marriage courses for several years. After moving to Dallas, she served as a parenting consultant at the Family Life Counseling Center. She also has served as an educational consultant for the children’s video series, “Boz the Bear”; and co-authored The Parenting Survival Guide. She has served on the Boards of ChildCareGroup and National Charity League, Inc. First and foremost she enjoys spending time with her husband, Shelby, and their four almost-grown children.
