What is the total enrollment of the school, Enrichment through Class Eight?
We have 435 students and sixty faculty and staff.
What is the class size?
Class sizes are small so that each student will receive individual attention and have abundant opportunities to participate and lead. The number of students per class ranges from twelve in the early grades to eighteen in the middle school.
Does the School have a dress code?
Students wear uniforms which are purchased from a uniform company. The Enrichment uniform is different from the day school uniform.
We have adopted our policy on uniforms in accordance with our school's guiding principle which encourages a tasteful and modest lifestyle. Students must be clean, well-groomed and conservatively dressed in uniform on campus and at all school functions. Students must also have conservative hair styles. Students who violate the dress code will be sent home, or their parents will be called to bring the proper uniform to school.
Does Providence have a school library?
Yes. We have a full library for Classes One through Eight.
How do you define "classical" education?
Providence defines “classical” education in the broad sense of being traditional, time-tested, and intellectually rigorous rather than in the narrower sense of being centered in Latin and Greek studies. A classical education is based on great ideas, great books (including primary sources when possible), foundational truths and principles, and enduring traditions and skills. See the Core Values for further explanation.
Is Providence affiliated with any church or denomination?
No, Providence is an independent, private, not-for-profit school.
How can I find out about carpools?
We encourage parents to form carpools with other Providence families in their area. Students are released at the end of the day through the carpool line only. A carpool registration form is included in the registration packet.
Does Providence have a cafeteria?
We do not have a cafeteria, but the Parents Council organizes a lunch-by-local-vendor program whereby students may purchase hot lunches several days per week. Some students prefer to bring a lunch daily. Students usually eat outside, and teachers accompany their classes to lunch. We encourage parents to join their children for lunch whenever they wish to.
What is the average amount of time spent on homework?
Generally, homework assignments will be made Monday through Thursday for Classes One through Four and Monday through Friday for Classes Five through Eight. Approximate times to be spent on homework per day for the average student are the following:
Class One: 30-45 minutes
Class Two: 40-50 minutes
Class Three: 50-60 minutes
Class Four: 60 minutes
Class Five-Six: 90 minutes
Classes Seven-Eight: 90 minutes
This time is the average for the class; an individual student's times will vary according to the pace at which the student works. These time allotments for homework do not include corrections, unfinished work from class, or daily outside reading from the required reading list.
What high schools do Providence eighth graders usually attend?
Highland Park High School, Trinity Christian, Cambridge, Ursuline, St. Mark’s, Cistercian, Hockaday, among others
What is "Enrichment"?
The Enrichment program is Providence’s pre-k and kindergarten. Enrichment I and II are two mornings per week, and Enrichment III is two full days per week.
Enrichment I (four years old as of September 1)
Enrichment II (five years old as of September 1)
Enrichment III (five years old as of June 1)
Why do Enrichment students only attend two or three mornings a week?
We believe that early childhood training begins at home. We are less concerned about a child's reading and writing abilities than we are about their training in habits such as obedience, self-control, attentiveness, and respect for authority. We know this is a unique philosophy among Christian schools, but it has proven successful for us over nineteen years.
Does Providence Offer Financial Aid?
Yes, Providence offers partial tuition assistance to qualified families. See “Financial Aid.”
What is the testing process?
Enrichment I applicants are not tested or observed. Parents are interviewed.
Enrichment II and III students visit the campus for observation activities. See “application Process.”
Candidates for admission to Class One must register for testing with CATS. Registration is available on their website at www.catstexas.com. They also visit the campus for observation and a pre-reading screening.
Classes Two through Four visit the campus for testing and observation activities.
Classes Five through Eight take the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) which is scheduled by the parents through the website www.erbtest.org. These students also visit the campus and have an interview.
