From The Librarian
The Providence library is designed to be an oasis of calm for academic work, research, and recreational reading. Our emphasis is on books, and we aim to limit the distractions of other media. In this section of the website, you are able to browse our library’s catalog, recommend books, and contribute to the Library by fulfilling wishes from our Amazon.com Wish List.
Providence Christian School has a written philosophy and specific criteria for the selection of literature included in our classrooms, in our library, and on our Providence Reading Lists. The core value that governs this philosophy is, “The School is committed to promoting innocent childhood while also preparing and equipping its older students for their further education in a world that neither knows nor honors the Savior, Jesus Christ.” The books our students read should extend their knowledge, excite their curiosity, and accomplish the goal of leaving our young readers thirsting for more. Providence’s collections (classroom, library, and Reading Lists) consist of books that represent the finest of children’s literature—works that ennoble the spirit, advance the understanding, and fire the imagination of the young. Providence has a Book Committee (comprised of faculty, administration, and parents) that continues to review, update, and edit these collections.
Providence aims to enhance the emotional and developmental growth of our Prekindergarten through Class Four students, instill a love of reading, and protect and preserve the innocence of these children.
Providence also strives to extend the pleasure of reading for Classes Five through Eight and provide resources for their academic endeavors, while encouraging further character development within these students.
