Athletics » Athletics Overview |

In a culture that lifts sports to idolatry level, Providence is committed to keeping the proper perspective. Academics will always have the lead role and athletics will be simple, excellent, and pure. Athletics at Providence starts with physical education classes in the lower grades, combined with a variety of parent-organized community teams (such as through the YMCA). In the upper grades, students may participate in a variety of school-sponsored teams in major sports such as football, volleyball, basketball, and cross country. So that sports do not come to dominate students lives, athletic practices begin during the last period of the day (around 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.) and end no later than 4:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m. Students not participating on school athletic teams participate in a physical education program until the end of the school day. |

The goals of Providence Christian School Athletic program are multi-faceted. They include, but are not limited to:
- The development of Christian Character
- The development of motor skills
- The allowance for daily physical exercise
- The increased knowledge of Physical Fitness
- The creation of healthy competition
- The development of a coachable athlete
- The development of specific sport skills
We acknowledge that the school cannot provide all sports, at all levels, for all student athletes, and we do desire to support them in their off campus athletic endeavors. With this as a goal, the Alterative Sports (AS) program allows students to gain both P.E. credit for their off campus sports and to have an early release at 1:45 pm in lieu of their regularly scheduled P.E. class. Parents may view and save a copy of the AS program policy, Application, and Weekly Verification Forms here (password required).
